| Post subject: Sound problems |
|
|
Something strange I found is that some sounds (like minigun) seem to be much too quiet as if they are at a distance, while some sounds are too loud that should be at a distance.
The way I got round it was to change
AudioDevice=ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem
to
AudioDevice=Audio.GenericAudioSubsystem
in ut.ini
However this makes another problem that some background sounds crackle, and also some maps crash.
I've tried this with different sound cards and symptons persist. Anyone in the know want to shed light on this?
I used the Loki 436 installer with GOTYE. Anyone tried other installers and not had these problems? |

Don't know - I thought only the 2 I listed were ok to use
How would I do it? |

Okay, sorry about the short reply.
Welcome to UTPad!
Okay, so I use Ubuntu, so I'm not sure if you can do the same thing, but I can double click my speaker icon in the taskbar, and it will open up a dialogue box, and I can go to preferences, and chose which audio device drivers I want to use. I tried using yahoo messenger in linux running vmware with xp and it sounded like crap, then I changed the audio from the generic driver to ALS and it cleared the problem up.
I hope this helps.
I'm spreading the word about this section of the forum, hoping that we can get seasoned pros here to share their knowlege. I just started using linux back in early Dec, but I love Ubuntu. It makes linux way easier for a windows dummy like me to use.
What distro are you using? Maybe I can find some help for you.
(Theres a setting in the ini file that changes the audio, if I can find it, I'll post it. Probably not tonight, because I have a clan meeting in a few minutes.)
Bah, you need help, so I looked it up:
| Code:
|
[Audio.GenericAudioSubsystem]
UseFilter=True
UseSurround=False
UseStereo=True
UseCDMusic=False
UseDigitalMusic=False
UseSpatial=False
UseReverb=False
Use3dHardware=False
LowSoundQuality=False
ReverseStereo=False
Latency=40
OutputRate=22050Hz
Channels=16
MusicVolume=160
SoundVolume=200
AmbientFactor=0.7
|
see where it says latency? try setting it to I think 200 (or was it 20?) (bah, try either).
I'm in windows right now, I have been scripting some weapons, and can't do that well in linux yet. (still got a foot stuck in the windows lol)
Let me know how it goes.

I'm using Slackware 10.1 with Fluxbox so I don't have tha icon. I think it's possible to start UT to use other sound devices by using the command line 'artsdsp ut' ie for Arts sound, but that just creates lag.
I guess I will have to put up with the very quiet minigun sound for now. Dunno why it's like that. It's almost like UT has 5.1 output on and the front and rear speakers are mixed up.
I've tried playing with the settings in ut.ini but nothing really improves it. |

| Argh, yeah, ALSA. I keep coming here while I have XP up, not linux. If you have a spare hard drive sitting around, you might try Ubuntu, it's got a lot of people from the other distros coming over saying they like it better. You can download a live cd to run from your cdrom and check it out first to see if you want to install it. http://www.ubuntulinux.org/download Breezy Badger is the current stable release, though a new one is close to being released. |
