Interesting nograv instagib you all have over there. I'm trying to get used to lowgrav insta, and no one was on Zark servers, so I went looking for anybody to play with, and saw the PoD server with people on it, and went in, and was totally skunked on the first map. Second map gave me a minute to get used to it, and I actually enjoyed it. Still like the Zarked version, but anyway...
Oh, I tried to vote for the shotgun, but the insta won. I guess I'll try it some other time.
And I think I'll be going back to BL. I just miss the game and the clan too much. Thanks for the kudos, I probably wouldn't have gotten much down without your help.
Okay, I admit it, I'm stupid. I just repeated a post I did 5 days ago.
Anyway, I have done extensive work in weapons mods and the efforts of my endeavors can be seen on our sever, 67.19.84.40 on the mutator section of mapvote. You will see Zark Arms, Zark Insta Gib, Zark Redeemer (not for the faint of heart, trust me. Oh, and spawn with alt fire, not fire, or you blow yourself up), and Zark 8 Ball. These are subject to change as I am working on a full server mod which will have all ut weapons Zarked.
I think one of the best things about UT is that you can make it do so many things using uscript. I got started back in the spring of 05 when {KzK}ACE sent me a weapon he had modded, and I noticed that it had some language in the death messages that were a bit more mature than we like to have on our server. My 10 year old (at the time) son plays (yeah, I ought to have my head examined, I know) on the server, and I didn't want him seeing that he'd "F***ed up someone" when he killed them. I learned how to byte hack from a Zellius tutorial on a forum that I used to go to when I was keeping tabs on hackers and cheaters, (more on Ticklemonster VS the botters later) and figured I could just bytehack the u file and change the death message, but got to thinking about it, and decided to give actually editting script a try.
I'm glad I did, because I had been wanting an M203 Assault rifle for a long time, and kept being told it can't be done. It was hard at first, because I have absolutely no background in scripting, but I kept at it and finally took a the Zark Assault rifle and took the Zoom off and added the secondary fire from the Flak Gun to it so that it lobs explosives.
Now I want to learn to model, but it is all so foreign to me. Nothing is intuitive about it at all, so that is on the back burner.
So you're thinking to yourself, "wtf, eh? he's going on and on, and all I want is a stinking link or two so that I can make neat weapons mods".
Fine then, be that way lol. Here are a couple of tutorials:
And here is a great editor to use. You can set it up to do all kinds of things, and it has an exporter so you can go export the .uc (actual scripting) and images and meshes from a .u file, and you can compile with it, launch ut from it so you can test what you have done, and it even gives you hints as to what you have done wrong in your script when you mess something up.
It's shareware, but I think that it's good enough that you should consider contributing to the cause .
And in the words of my friend and hero, MrBond113, "But, above all, you will gain the most experience by LOOKING AT EXISTING CODE. Snoop around the classes, get familiar with what function does what, how the scripts "flow", stuff like that. Just do some small mutators to start, then start thinking big picture.
Happy coding!"
Now I'm not pro at any of this, so your best support is going to be the tutorials at first, but if we can get more people in here, we'll stand a better chance of quick answers to questions when people have problems, so SPREAD THE WORD!
